Rutland, VT- Friday – Sunday, March 15 – 17 2013. There will be two activities happening at the Diamond Run Mall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday March 15, 16 & 17. First the Aktion Club will collect pet food and items to be donated in honor of past Aktion Club members. Secondly, there will be a display of the puzzle that the Self Advocacy group did showing how they have similar feelings and dreams and are connected just like other citizens without disabilities. ARC Rutland Area is a nonprofit organization that works with citizens with developmental disabilities and their families. We promote ARC Rutland Area by offering programs that are derived from our name: Advocacy, Resources and Community opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. ARC helps the local Self Advocates Becoming Empowered-Rutland with their monthly meetings and reaching their goals. We also help the Rutland Family Support network with their potlucks and sibshops. We do much Representative Payee work, read material from the State standing meetings on disabilities and attend the local standing committee at CAP. Of course, our more known activities are the five dances that we provide.
Come on by the Diamond Run Mall this weekend and see what the groups have been up to. You can drop off a pet donation or create a puzzle piece for our new community puzzle. On the old puzzle you can notice the crooked piece to symbolize how people first see us, notice the empty puzzle piece to show how people think of us, then notice the items we have in our collages, we have much in common, the yarn webbing shows how we are interconnected to our community by our jobs, dreams and fears. Lastly notice the last piece on the right fits perfectly, just like people with disabilities! It’s a great piece.
