Dances and Other Social Events
ARC provides our members with social activities throughout the year. Our most beloved social events are our five themed dinner dances – a Valentine’s Day Dance, an End of Winter Dance, a Spring Fling Dance, a Halloween Dance, and a Holiday Dance. These dances are held in community clubs and organizations such as the Rutland Elks Lodge, and the American Legion in Castleton and Rutland. Meals are served and a DJ provides music for dancing.
Our Great Outdoor Initiative provides other annual social activities including summer cookouts, a Barn Picnic at the Duffy Family Home in Poultney, a Summer Splash with Come Alive Outside, a Family Fun Day/BBQ with the Kiwanis Club, and participation in National Night Out. We also have other social activities when opportunities arise.
These events provide a safe and healthy environment for individuals with developmental disabilities that encourages building a circle of support, practicing social skills, physical exercise and fun; resulting in reduced isolation and loneliness, development of social and life skills, making friends, and gaining a sense of belonging and community inclusion. All of which improve the physical, mental, and emotional health of these individuals and their families.
ARC Rutland Area is the only organization is this area that provides these social programs on a regular basis for adults with developmental disabilities in the Rutland area.
